What to pack for a 5-day business trip?
I usually over-pack each time I travel. I know I should know better – and I’ve become a better and more efficient packer… but still… There are always those few pieces I never wear!
Putting my past packing experiences into practice, I created the most stylish and efficient packing list for a 5-day business trip, assuming you are traveling for a conference (domestic or overseas) where you stay most of the time in the conference center during the day and have dinners/functions to attend in the evening with not much time to change in-between.
All items I picked can be combined with each other and the styling combinations are endless.
What to pack?
Day 1 – Travel and Informal Reception
On your travel day you want to be comfortable. You most likely travel by plane and people from your company may travel with you - so you need to look as well polished and presentable.
Choose a pair of dark washed, mid-rise, straight-leg jeans with a neutral sweater, a casual jacket and a cover-up with a cape since it can get cold on the plane. Wear a pair of stylish flats in a popping color for easy on and off during security check. Style the outfit with a colorful scarf and a pair of matching earrings. Travel with a tote in a neutral color that can carry all your essentials and is chic enough to go with a business suit during the day.
Once you arrive, you usually register for the conference and attend an informal reception in the evening. Wear the same jeans, put on a neutral silk/satin top with a statement necklace and matching earrings. Throw on the suit blazer and a pair of plateau pumps, grab your evening clutch, and you are good to go!
Day 2 – Conference and Dinner
The first conference day usually starts early. Keynotes, breakout sessions, exhibitions, and so on. You are going to walk a lot, so keep in mind to wear some comfortable shoes that are broken in. I chose a kitten heel pump in patent leather in a neutral color. Wear your pantsuit with a colorful silk top, a scarf and neutral earrings. Your neutral tote is your new best friend.
In the evening you will most likely go out for dinner, either with coworkers or clients, so keep it casual classic. Wear the skirt, exchange the blazer with a cardigan, put on some colorful heels, and combine with matching earrings and a cross-body purse.
Day 3 – Conference and Award Dinner
Keep it classic today. Wear your skirt suit with a button down silk blouse, neutral jewelry and scarf, kitten heels and your tote.
There is probably some sort of Award Dinner scheduled for the evening. Wear your dress with a statement necklace and matching earrings, cover up with the cape you wore on the plane, put on your jewel-toned heels, and top it off with your multicolored clutch.
Day 4 – Conference and Closing Ceremony
By this day, your feet may hurt from all the walking. You are allowed to keep it a bit more casual today. Wear your suit pants with a jewel-toned knit top and matching patterned cardigan and put on your flats. Your feet will thank you later.
In the evening there is probably another function you need to attend. Wear your skirt with a cowl-neck satin top, neutral jewelry and your cape. Put on your plateau pumps and give the outfit a pop of color with your beautiful clutch.
Day 5 – Conference and Casual Outing
This is your last conference day and it will probably end early so you can either travel back home on that day or stay one more night and enjoy what your city has to offer. Go out with a bang and wear your beautiful dress with a casual jacket, scarf, neutral jewelry and your jewel-toned heels. Your BFF tote is with you.
In the afternoon, switch into your jeans, a top, keep the casual jacket on, put on your flats, a statement necklace with matching earrings, grab your cross-body purse and explore the city.
